Matthew 25: We will hear Well done good and faithful servant or we will experience weeping and gnashing of teeth. The choice in the parables Ten Virgins Talents and Final Judgment is very clear. Jesus is making it very clear that we all have a purpose, a God given purpose and we should use our talents to carry that purpose out. We should also be wise when living our lives. It took me a while (a very long while) to gain wisdom. Theres a saying if only I had the wisdom in my 20s and 30s that I have in my 40s and 50s I would not have wasted any of my talents. But this is the way it goes so often and as for me I had to go through a lot of trials before I gained wisdom. But one thing I always knew deep down inside is that God did expect me to excel in all that I do. Another point in this reading is the statement Jesus makes weeping and gnashing of teeth, did you know that statement is made by Jesus 10 times in the New Testament. In your spare time look them up and read the lessons Jesus is teaching while warning of this outcome. He is talking about the prideful, the lazy, the slothful, and the coward when it comes to living out Gods purpose and when we choose to ignore that purpose for these reasons on our final judgment day He will separate us goats and sheep. In these parables He uses illustrations of people that are going about their days doing what they probably always do and yet they are wasting their talents or their fortune on the life around them. Whenever we serve God (and that can be done in many capacities) we are not wasting our talents. It can be anything from visiting someone that cannot leave their home to a missionary trip to the Congo. I would like to take a moment and do a shout out for my daughter Samantha Mullen. A lot of you reading these posts know her. Some of you may not know this but she lives with her brother David and his wife Annette. She does this to help care for the kids because she loves them with all of her heart. You see Annette has epilepsy that is not controlled by meds. She has several seizures a week and sometimes several in a day. She cannot be alone with the kids (she is another one that I would write about and her struggles to find a cure - but thats for another day) Anyway, Sami is doing what God has called her to do. Some think she needs to do something for herself while she is young. Actually I have said that to her myself. But when she is told this she simply says that right now she is where she needs to be for her brother and sister and their beautiful boys. This my friends is sacrificial love, this is what it looks like if you need a modern day example. Please pray for her, David, Annette and the three boys as they look for solutions for Annettes health. And when you see Sami in person or online let her know that she is making a difference in their lives, this is her calling at this time. So while you walk through your day - look for ways in which God can use you. This can be anywhere from holding the door open for someone to giving blood at the Red Cross. It can also be raising your kids or helping with your grand kids, or helping with other peoples kids and in my case it is walking along someone with similar hurts hang-ups and habits. It can be volunteering at your church, food bank, or running a marathon. Serving out your God given purpose looks different for many. But serving God is the most important role in life. Have a wonderfully blessed and Christ centered day.
