Matthew 3:13-17--Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” John knew that Jesus was the Son of God! He believed that he should be baptized by Christ, but Jesus said that it needed to be that way for righteousness to be fulfilled. John had been baptizing the people unto repentance. Jesus NEVER sinned but was setting a pattern for you and I as followers to be baptized. Jesus came up immediately from the water. According to the Word of God, baptism is being immersed (dipped) in water. Baptism is not, let me repeat, baptism is not being sprinkled with water! Jesus came up out of the water! For some reason people believe that when they got baptized that they got salvation, but that is not salvation! Salvation is turning from sin and turning to Christ alone for forgiveness! God the Father then gives His acknowledgement by opening the heavens and says, This is my Beloved Son in whom Im well pleased! Jesus is truly the Son of God!
