Matthew 5:5--“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Psalm 37:11—“But the meek shall inherit the earth: and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” What does it mean to be meek? Some people say if you are meek you are a doormat under foot. That is not at all what this verse means. In First Peter God gives us guidelines for what a godly wife is to be like to her husband. One of the characteristics is to “have a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” (1Peter 3:4) The word meek really means to be mild or gentle. Think of holding a brand new baby. You aren’t going to grab the baby and throw it around like you would a 3 year old you are playing with. No, you are meek and gentle with that baby. Holding it, cradling it, being very quiet around it. Picture that in all of your daily living. That quiet but constant person, meeting all the family needs, taking care of the family, settling arguments quietly, not jumping on the husband when he arrives home with all the stuff that happened all day long, making sure supper is ready. I am speaking to myself here too. I got stir crazy sometimes being at home all day long with no car, not able to go anywhere. I don’t always like it, but I do try to make the best of it. I do a lot of praying!! Matthew 5:6—“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” I think this verse is pretty self explanatory. When we are true Christians, we want to read God’s Word. We want to learn more about Him everyday. We can’t get enough knowledge. God will honor and bless that attitude. He will always show us something knew and exciting in the Bible. All we have to do is be willing to take a few minutes and READ what He has written. Let’s set up a daily Bible reading time and stick to it. If you want a good Bible reading program, let me know. I love the one that I am using and there are so many different ones out there. I would love to help find one that you can use.
