Matthew 6:31-33 – Seeking His Kingdom First Daily Devotional Bible Verse Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:31-33 ESV) We all face the temptation to focus on the immediate and urgent needs of daily life. We need food, water, clothing, and shelter- this is nothing new. People throughout history and around the world seek after the same things. Even when we possess those things in abundance, we still tend to want more. Jesus challenges us to look at the world around us and see how God takes care of the birds and flowers. He reminds us our Father cares much more about us. Jesus makes a BIG PROMISE here: if we seek God’s kingdom first then He will take care of our most urgent needs. The challenge is simple yet difficult: do we have the faith to reorient our lives around who God is and what He’s doing? It can be easy to go through life focusing on ourselves in the here and now. Do you consistently seek God’s kingdom in your daily activities? If not, then why? Part of this can be trust issue when it comes to God. But if we truly believe that God will keep his promise and that the Bible is his word, then we have no reason to not seek his Kingdom before our petty needs that come up every day. Take a few minutes to ask God to reveal to you how you can take steps of faith to reorient your life around who He is and what He’s doing
