(Matthew) Finally found, and fixed, the level generation bug which caused tiles to sometimes overlap; was a unity code reading and timing issue where it would cause the tile to spawn before it finished clearing and re-checking available locations even though the checking was done before the spawning. Reworked the inventory and found four bugs of which three are fixed with the fourth having an impact on the game design which requires some thought on how to handle it. The first is that when you pick up an item it would give you that item every frame, the second and third were positional errors that caused the inventory display to extend off into the distance on two different axis.
