Matthew McConaugheys blossoming into one of the best actors about has been something to behold.While he continues to give a perfect performance in HBOs flawless True Detective,Jean Marc-Vallees DALLAS BUYERS CLUB gives him his best big screen role since his hilarious turn in Tropic Thunder.The film tells the true-life tale of bigoted electrician and rodeo enthusiast Ron Woodruff who has to question his prejudices when he discovers he has AIDS.Using his hustlers mind he starts shipping unlicensed AIDS medication across the border,helped by his transvestite right hand(a fragile,moving Jared Leto) and a supportive doctor(Jennifer Garner).Its a good film,telling its tale sparsely and viewing the highs and lows of its players with a non-judgemental(if occasionally sketchy) eye.But its moved up a level by McConaughey.Initially detestable,finally redeemed but never unlikeable this is fantastic work.(4/5)
