Matts Morning Stroll Down Main Street in Merced, CA Friday, September 26, 2014 MERCED, CA - Have you ever strolled down Main and noticed the view? For the most part, I think the businesses and city are doing a good job on keeping it looking clean and friendly. But our Main street is looking more and more like some Merced doesnt care. With a broken window at a business in operation, missing letters on a city sign, graffiti both high up and at street level, stained and dirty sidewalks, especially outside of the Partisan bar, and the walls on the east facing side of the Tower Theatre has cracked paint with rust bleeding through. And these problems were just between M st and MLK. What made this snap shot look at our town really stand out to me was the look of our District Attorneys office. With a convenient bail bonds business catty corner to the office of the Merced County District Attorney. Which, by the way, did I mention is on the Main Street of Merced? With only one flag flying on its flag posts outside the corner of the building, the one lone American flag made my heart sink. Is this what people see as they drive to our District Attorneys offices? I thought to myself. Where is the pride? With several windows scratched with graffiti, a homeless family camped near the entrance, stains on the walls and dust everywhere. If this is what people see as a representation of our city then what can we do to get these issues corrected?
