Maui surf oct 9th:There won’t be much surf to mention today as nearly all shores drop to near flat levels, with exception of our windward shores which should still see some sloppy windswell around waist-high levels. Select north shore breaks could see a few leftover sets out of the north-northwest at thigh-waist high levels this morning, but don’t bet on it. Some south shore breaks may see a tiny south-southwest bump, but again, don’t expect anything. The flatness will continue through the next several days, but the weather will likely stink as well, roughing up any surf that does manage to find our shores. A low far northwest of the islands near Kamchatka is whipping up our next chance for surf, but the low is already fading as it tracks toward the east along the western Aleutian Islands. This energy should reach our shores around Saturday evening or more likely Sunday morning, potentially peaking at well-overhead levels. The models continue to show another low developing in the wake of this low near the central Aleutians over the weekend, possibly setting up a more north-northwesterly swell that would arrive around Tuesday. The long-range models show an active western Pacific pattern next week, but it’s too early to discuss with any confidence yet. Nothing more than tiny background swell should be expected out of the South Pacific through the forecast period.
