Max Davidson was abused when he was small and was hand shy. (hed bite you if you reached for him) then he would duck. Bless Walter Davidson. He suggested we take him and love him and deal with his issues. And deal we did. And we loved him unconditionally! He was so much a part of our family that those who knew us just accepted the fact that if they wanted to be around us they had to accept the fact that Max would be there too. Bless them one and all for accept is what they did. Max rode with us, sailed with us and lived with us and we loved him dearly. 7 years after Walters death, Max decided one morning that I would have to live without him. I was devastated and when my dear friend, Lyn Westbrook, learned of Maxs crossing the rainbow bridge, she started a Memorial Fund at a vets office in Parkersburg. At first it was meant to pay vet bills for dogs whose owners couldnt afford the service. Soon Lyn turned the money over to me and I received a few private donations. 6 years ago, Terri Klingenberg went into Dr. Tammy Smiths office after she had lost a beloved cat. She wanted to know what the Max Fund was and who had it. Dr. Tammy told her, Terri contacted me and suggested we start a Christmas pet photo shoot with Santa Claus. She called it Paws with Claus for a Cause. Proceeds would go to the Max Fund. Wow, I was in awe of this woman who had never heard of me or Max and wanted to do a fund raiser for us. And grateful to Dr. Tammy for giving us a good recommendation!!!!!! We held the 1st photo shoot at the Belpre Fire Dept. Bingo Hall and it was a success! The rest is history. We not only paid vet bills, spayed and neuter pets, but we rescued and rehomed. To date we have saved 100 dogs. (yes, dont tell anybody but weve helped several poor cats as well!) 100 dogs you asked? Thats not many! All I can say to you is we operate on a very small budget and we have rescued and rehomed some great dogs who otherwise would have been running the streets or put down. We are very careful about the homes in which these dogs are placed! Trust me. People have a name for us! We have only had one dog returned to us and when he was rehomed again? He found his place and is thriving and being loved and loving his great new owners. I could list the names but I wont. I could tell you whose vet bills weve paid but I wont. Suffice it to say, every dollar we get is spent wisely and though 100 doesnt seem a huge number? Those 100 dogs have lived in loving, safe homes and we are so grateful for what weve had the privilege of doing for them. Thats why this photo shoot with Santa is so important to us. It provides us with the funds to save these dogs. Thats what the Max Fund is all about. As my husband used to say, Sharon, you cant save the world. And I would say, then Ill try to make a difference. He would pat me on the back and say, go for it kid! I think he and Max are looking down and very proud of what weve done for our furry friends. All we try to do is make a difference!!!!! Help us make that difference!!!!!!!
