May 10, 2014 Sumter downs Lexington 7-0; Wildcats play at either Wando or West Ashley on Monday Lexington, S.C. -- Charlie Barnes pitched a complete-game and James Barnes had three hits that helped No. 1 Sumter to a 7-0 win at No. 4 Lexington in the opening game of the AAAA Lower State playoffs on Saturday. Lexington, which fell to 20-9, plays at either Wando or West Ashley in an elimination game on Monday. The Gamecocks improved to 24-2. Charlie Barnes (8-1) picked up the win allowing four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Chase Williamson (0-1) suffered the loss in relief allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits with four strikeouts over 3 1/3 inings of work. The Gamecocks scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning. Chris Crawfords RBI single and a run-producing bunt from Jacob Watcher gave Sumter a 2-0 lead. Donte Hartman scored when Jordan Holladay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth inning that extended Sumters lead to 3-0. The Gamecocks added four runs in the seventh inning highlighted by James Barnes two-run single. James Barnes finished 3-for-4 while Jacob Watcher added a pair of hits for Sumter.
