May 13, 2013 Dear Friends, We have now been here in AK for 3 weeks. Since our arrival, we traveled to Copper Center to open the cabin. After a few days we left for Dot Lake, Fairbanks, Nenana, Anchorage then back home. Then this past week another trip to Wasilla for Chapel materials to finish the bathrooms. Thus far we have driven over 1200 miles and have just begun. Lani and I wanted to visit with the missionaries at Nenana and were encouraged with what the Lord is doing there. In between trips, I, Craig, put down the carpet in 2 rooms and walkoff carpet tile in the entryway and began demolition of the old trailer at the Conference grounds to make way for the new building there. Next week it will be installing vinyl and fixtures in both bathrooms. It was encouraging to attend a memorial Service for an older lady in the community and see how much the building is appreciated since there were over 250 in attendance. Lani and I were thankful to be able to stay at Jean’s for a few days while getting the water going in the cabin. We do have water in, just not out. The septic tank is still frozen so we have a “Luggyloo” toilet system. It is composed of a 5 gallon pail with a snap on seat and lid. You begin with a gallon of water and a packet of RV toilet treatment. That keeps the smell down considerably. We only have to dump it twice a week into an old outhouse pit. Grey water, sinks and shower, can go directly into the ground away from the cabin. The snow has finally gone from the septic drainfield so we hope that the system will thaw in the next few weeks. But as I finish this update, we have a winter weather advisory for tonight and parts of the ground are already getting white. They say we can expect 2-8 inches. Hope not. (We have seen numerous swans, geese, ducks and other migratory birds already. I wonder if the females have not said to the males “I told you that you should have checked the weather repost before we left!!!) Ministry wise, I have been asked to preach once in May and twice in June. There may be additional opportunities come up later. I am also beginning a Bible Study for some of the young men, 20’s & 30’s, on Sunday Evenings. I was excited to have ones really interested and for one of the fellows to open his home for the study. I also want to have one for the older guys and Lani is beginning a Women’s Study. Both of us are excited to see what the Lord will do through these studies. Pray for these opportunities to build God’s Word into lives. Pray also for good weather when the work teams arrive in June and for the concrete work to be done on time.
