May 15th - Why am I making this? (Note by Ashleigh) Prior to the start of this work I was having concerns about how dance fit into my attitude as an artist. It has always been so important to me to be relevant to my generation. (This is hard as an artist who cares about the preservation and advancement of fine arts which can at times be too esoteric to have mass appeal.) All of this considered, I wanted to begin making a project about my generation and for my generation. I thought I would do this by utilizing media that makes sense for a modern audience. I knew it had to include some technological elements, but still I was resistant to the idea of total technological immersion in my personal life which was conflicting. So, I set out to make a project exploiting technology and the internet which would in turn denounce technology and the internet. Although, because this piece cannot exist without the tech elements I think it might end up promoting them. What I do know is that I can make a work that portrays the feeling of technological immersion. I dont know exactly what that will lead the audience to believe about our increasing tech consumption, Ill leave that up to them to decide.
