May 2, 1814 His Excellency Isaac Shelby Governor of Kentucky, Dear Sir The term of service for which the militia at Newport were called out being about to expire, I have to request of your Excellency to have detailed from the militia of your State, one Captain, one first Lieutenant one Second Lieutenant one third Lieutenant one Ensign five Sergeants, six Corporals, two musicians and ninety privates to relieve those now serving at New Port as a guard to the British Prisoners. As the engagements of those now in service will expire about the 12 or 15 inst., it is important that the new detachment should be pushed on as soon as possible. Until this day I had supposed that I had written to you before on this subject but upon examining my papers I find that I was mistaken I am Dear Sir with great truth your devoted friend WiLLM.
