May 3rd...opening day of super sized Farmers market. Got it in my calendar. May 3 is opening Saturday for the 27th season of the Haymarket Farmers Market. And the market is expanding into a portion of the nearby newly developed West Haymarket area. The market will occupy its traditional three blocks in the Historic Haymarket, plus Q Streets between Seventh and Canopy streets, as well as underneath the new canopy from P to Q. The additional space will give the crowded Saturday morning market a little breathing room and move shoppers close to Pinnacle Bank Arena and more available parking. The goal is to spread out some of the existing vendors and add a few more, said Jeff Cunningham, the markets business manager. A vendor selling buffalo meat will be among the newcomers, he said. The market will continue to have live entertainment, face painting and Shades the Clown making balloon animals. The market has 210 vendors on its mailing list and from 100 to 130 vendors on any given Saturday morning, according to Cunningham.
