May be all that glitters is not Gold ??? Post of Jagdeep Singh with Sanjay Bapna and 10 others ... BYPOLL ANALYSIS SO WHERE IS MODI GOING WRONG? A month ago there were bypolls on three seats on Uttarakhand. All three were won by Congress. And this despite the fact that just a month and a half earlier the Lok Sabha polls had been won overwhelmingly by the BJP. In those same segments Congress won the bypoll. Was it just an aberration? The answer is a loud and clear NO! In fact, the bypoll outcome of a couple of days ago(Congress and allies -- 11 BJP -- 7) gives a lie to the theory of pan-Hindu mobilization. Furthermore, BJP has also lost some seats considered to be their bastions. SHEEN IS GOING When I quoted Bebek Debroy the other day on how the anti-incumbency against Modi Government was working fast and furious -- I was scoffed at.. Yesterdays bypoll results is a barometer enough to see, to discern the mood of the people. The sheen , Ladies and Gentlemen, is going - and how!? So where the heck is Modi going wrong? MMS KIND OF SILENCE Firstly, he has become as silent as Manmohan Singh. A Muslim techie gets killed in Pune by Hindu racists. He doesnt utter a word. The VHP, the Bajrang Dal, the Shiv Sena, the RSS make obnoxious even dangerously communal remarks. He doesnt utter a word. He does away with the conventional PMs Iftar dinner. When asked why -- he doesnt utter a word. The very first statement that a Minister from the PMO makes is that Article 370 will be done away with -- with the J&K CM replying himmat hai toh karke dikhayo. Our Honble PM doesnt utter a word. Neither does he have anything to say about the increasing communal rioting and incidents in the UP. TOP PRIORITY -- GOVERNORS HATAO! The focus on reducing the onion prices got lost somewhere -- with the Governments high priority being to change the Congress leaders as Governors. It was so childish. Arm-twisting them to quit. And if they dont budge -- transfer them to Mizoram. As if going to Mizoram is a punishment posting. What a lousy message to our brothers and sisters in the North-East. True, the Congress had done the same in 2004 -- but in 2010 there was a SC ruling that the Governors need not be removed on the whims and fancies of the new ruling political party. And then how are they different from Congress? MEDIA AT AN ARMS LENGTH As in Gujarat -- Modi has decided to distance himself from the media. He has an old hangover based on the coverage of 2002 post Godhra rioting, which he felt was blatantly one-sided. He used the media effectively in the elections and then abandoned it. He has stopped taking the media personnel abroad which was a standard practice with the former PMs. He has refused to have a Media Advisor -- a person who plays a pivotal role in establishing a link between the Press and PM. Senior journalists dont know whom to contact to get in touch with the PM. Consequently, one can observe the subtle change in the recent coverage of the national press. ELECTION SPEECH? An Independence Day speech needs to be sober and sedate. It is a solemn occasion -- which is why an election kind of a speech with lathkas and jhatkas and over-abundance of bhayion aur behnon should be a strict no! no! The Modi speech was a pure election speech. And on this I quote none other than the K.N. Govindacharya of the BJP, who in a recent interview to Business Standard said, without mincing words, that Modis 15 August speech was a typical election one with a lot of sound but little substance. Make in India....Make in India .....Make in India......Make in India....Gawd! Who on earth is his speech writer? Such rhetoric on Independence Day. But did he talk about INFLATION? NO! Did he talk about CORRUPTION! NO! Did he talk about GOOD GOVERNANCE? NO! Did he talk about PAKISTANS ceasefire violations day after day. Answer again is a resounding NO! ( hows that for rhetoric)Yeah he did DISMANTLE the Planning Commission from the historic ramparts of the Red Fort. Not that we have anything against TOILETS in schools or keeping our surroundings CLEAN. SCHOOL MONITOR SYNDROME When the entire world is moving towards flexi-timings, decentralization, delegation of power -- here everything in PM/PMO-focussed. A minister cannot keep a secretary of his choice. He cannot meet an industrialist over lunch. When he meets a particular states MPs -- he sits on a high dais while the others sit below them. So much for consensus leadership. The BJP States cannot expand their cabinets without his permission. The BJP CMs have to kowtow to the Dilli durbar all the time. Bureaucrats are warned against coming late to office. But what about when they work till late in the night or on Sundays. And for Petes sake let them play their round of golf. YEH DESH GUJARAT NAHIN HAI Their are already rumblings of discontent from within the bureaucrats, the BJP leaders on the autocratic style of I, ME, MYSELF Modi. It was okay in Gujarat. Par Yeh Desh Gujarat Nahin Hai. Rajiv Gandhi won the elections in 1984 with 400 plus seats. He couldnt form the Government in 1989. No one thought Indira Gandhi would ever come back after she had lost the elections in 1977 post the Emergency. She was back in the saddle in 1980. Vast and complex is this country of ours. Par yeh Desh Gujarat nahin hai.....Modi ji.....Gujarat nahin hai!.
