Maya Angelou, I love you Mrs. Angelou, I know who you are the last great African American storyteller, Nandi. I know who you are, a woman of high self-esteem. I heard your words in a magazine when I was a child. I think it was Ebony. It was a photo of you standing in a garden and it talked about the numerous languages you speak, it amazes me today. After 50 plus years serving your community and humanity with your profound wisdom; I know you are standing at the gate of spiritual and emotional freedom crying because we fail to listen. I am sorry that the young birds are not able to hear your singing. It is the noise in their ears that is cutting off the power of your voice, your words of resolve, empathy and courage, the message. It’s a shame today, more than before 1963, the African American mothers and young girls of today need you the most, right now. As a shepherd of spiritual empathy on the frontline; I still need your help fifty plus years later to save our people from self-destruction. My true nemeses are the people you want me to save. How can I awaken them in the days of ignorance, pain, denial and apathy for their own sake and survive? I am holding the line with your courage and patience. I will succeed in this social and civil war because of your leadership. In closing… I call you by your true name, Nandi asking for mercy, direction and the words of power. Energize me, my soul and resolve for conquest for the rights to demand from my people the power of self-reliance. I will leave the spirit of empathy with you. To watch over you and keep you warm. I will take back to the frontline your words, courage, patience and resolve and be victorious by any means necessary. Ive learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. Ive learned that I still have a lot to learn.
