Maybe Im growing old and crotchety, but I dont like some of the things that are happening in todays media. Lets say ESPN has a video segment about a player and his family. They spend thousands of dollars to fly production people out there. They have a reporter spend hours and hours doing research and then they spend the time to edit it, package it and then broadcast it to those who pay for their content. Then deadspin, Saturday Down South, bleacher report etc will take that same video content that they did not produce and embed it in their articles, provide a worthless commentary about it and then push it out on all forms of social media to draw traffic to their sites to increase unique user views to generate more advertising revenue. If its not your work, then you should not be compensated in any way for it. Its just unethical and its tiresome. Some would say, Well, ESPN is still getting their content viewed. Thats true, but why not just provide a link to ESPN enabling them to get the site hit and ad revenue they deserve for the work that theyve done? Ill tell you why, because these pseudo media people are basically stealing from the people who are out there on the road away from their families and grinding to provide something of quality to the people who enjoy their work. Its complete and utter garbage and I dont care whos feelings are hurt.
