Maybe hip-hop wouldnt be silent about social issues if they werent - TopicsExpress

Maybe hip-hop wouldnt be silent about social issues if they werent so complicit in our destruction. If you create albums that push out the very stereotypes that plague our young black men, you have no moral authority to speak against the machine. If you focused on releasing music that spoke truth to power, extolled the virtues of education, preached spiritual wholeness and community brotherhood, wed be in a much greater position to push back! No wed rather discuss fashion instead of faith; cars instead of community; ego instead of education; money instead of manners; luxury instead of love! With the amount of wealthy artists, media moguls, and entertainers we have, there is no excuse for us having music that degrades women and extols the flossy good life that the majority of our community cannot afford yet tries to emulate. With all that Oprah, Jay-Z, Bob Johnson, Magic Johnson, Tyler Perry, etc money we shouldnt be following housewives of anything or feel any obligations to put out any material that doesnt uplift the best of our community! Im tired of people marching to effect change out of people hell bent on keeping me down! They wont change! They have too much invested in the status quo! Change must come from us!!! Thats why I said it before and Ill say it again. If the Music aint of God put it back on the shelf! Wes-E out! thegrio/2014/12/04/questlove-hip-hop-protest-song/
