Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. just signed today the renewal of our commercial sand and gravel permit (CSAG) for another year. This sand and gravel operation in Agusan River has been very controversial and we expect it will remain to be so. We were accused of black sand mining, gold mining and even treasure hunting and causing harm to the environment. It took us more than 6 months to renew the said ONE (1) year permit. Additional requirements were imposed by the City Mining and Regulatory Board (CMRB) because of the controversies. Certifications of No Objection from the DPWH, from the District office, to the Regional and up to the National Office were required and obtained. Before these certifications of No-Objection were given, each Office sent their separate teams of civil and environmental engineers to inspect the Project. The DPWH Unified Management Office (UMO) of the Flood Control Management Cluster in Manila, even commented that this Project can help mitigate the flooding of the Agusan River. We were also required to obtain and was given a Certification of No-Objection from NIA. Even during the time of no operation, various teams from the DENR and City ENRO regularly inspected the Project Site. I commend Mayor Amante for ferreting out the truth, for supporting what is right and not be swayed by noisy and unfounded accusations. I again reiterate and God is my witness, that this is purely a sand and gravel operation. What you see is what it is. To the skeptics, my invitation to visit the project site remains open. I am requesting the skeptics of this Project , to visit our Project Site first, before accusing and passing judgment.
