Mayor Mike Duggan has called for Peace and Calm in the midst of a horrible incident in which a man was beaten by a group of youth after an auto accident within the City of Detroit last week. The man was driving his pick up home from work and by mistake, hit a child and while getting out of his car to check the safety of the child, he was beaten and robbed to the extent where he is now in a medically induced coma in the hospital. The child has been released from the hospital. The man was White and the child and the mob of youth were Black. This mob was a group of opportunists and as the Mayor has stated, by quoting Dr. Maya Angelou, When someone shows you who they are, Believe Them.. I was so proud to see the Detroit 300, a citizens action group of Detroiters decide to comb the neighborhood in search of these youth. The Detroit Police Department is now a diligent and pro-active police force which has dramatically increased its arrest rate. I have no doubt that the perpetrators will be found arrested and punished. There is a movement in our City, A movement to reshape, reconfigure, rebuild Detroit from the ashes like a Phoenix. This movement is made up of people of conscience from all walks of life, races and creeds. There is HOPE again for a Beautiful, Bustling and Prosperous Detroit. There will be programs and activities for youth to be an active part of the rebuilding of our city. However there are some people that need to be locked up. There are some people that need 24 hour supervision, retribution and rehabilitation. The first order of business for the city of Detroit is Civility and Order. Great Stance Mayor Duggan!
