Mayor elect Prather answered my questions Tom Prather Al, Thanks for your question. The Center of Town has been an important asset for our community for years. It has provided safe and necessary programs for children and families who may not have access to other locations or other higher priced, costly options. Many of our citizens are place-bound and need opportunities that are walkable and affordable. I was very proud to have led the citys purchase of the COT building before and worked closely with Ms. Ruby Harris great efforts to establish the programming there. Clearly, the need exists and action should be taken. Its been long enough. This should be a perfect opportunity for a cooperative effort between city and county government to reestablish the presence of the Center of Town, Checkpoint After School Program and other services to neighborhoods that have been traditionally underserved. It could be the existing site or another site in the neighborhood. I look forward to working with the city council, county government, citizens and others who respect the ideals of the Center of Town and its proud legacy to get answers and action. Your suggestion for the city parking lot is certainly worthy of discussion. We need to consider all the options, have a plan and execute the plan in manageable stages. Thanks.
