Mayslake Hall’s basement has many surprises. One room that is very impressive is the shower and steam room pictured here. The tile and marble massage table are original, and we also know from the wiring in the room that there was an old fashioned steam box in the corner. After an afternoon out on the grounds, this was the room where Mr. Peabody and his guests could get cleaned up prior to going into the upstairs, more formal part of the mansion. The basement is off limits to the public due to life-safety concerns, but hopefully some of these pictures will give you an idea of what these rooms look like.
