McCoys Blog - Hey BassSoldiers, its tournament season time. Just finished first one of the year on lake Chickamauga where some monster bags are being caught on the Alabama rig. The fish were in prespawn staging areas and flats just depending on the temps that day. I got onto a solid brush pile pattern and slow rolling the rig by would usually result in a good fish, with the biggest in practice being a 9. As usual come tournament day, there were boats a plenty on all typical structure and the bluebird skies kept the bite tough, so the brush piles would play a big role. I ended up having over 15 bites on the rig, but only caught 2. They would slam the rig but were taking the 2 top dummy baits(TN law only allows 3 hooks per rig, and BFL allows 5 baits with 3 hooks). I had bite marks on my top 2 baits without the hooks and got handed an ultimately tough day by the fish. Had the bites to top 5, but lets just say I learned a huge lesson and will be tinkering with the rig so that doesnt happen again. Finished middle of the field. Headed to Mexico for some much needed R an R. Tight lines and see you in a few weeks at the next tourney.
