Perhaps he would do anything for a chance to live without having to live up to someone/somethings standards. The heavily religious have no fear of death because they think they will go to heaven or paradise or something like that; but a fear of life because they believe that they are sinful and always do the wrong things. They are afraid to truly experience life as it should be: however one wants to live it without living up to anyones standards. I think the angel lines might in chance be references to guardian angels or other good forces that some believe guide or help people out these days. I dont believe in such things personally and I dont think Davey does either as he has written for no lack of searching I cant seem to find one, for no lack of searching I cant seem to find much more then lies. This is how I apply the song. Im not trying to come across as insulting religion, as I have said this is just my opinion.
