Measures have been taken to manage the influx of Mainland tourists - TopicsExpress

Measures have been taken to manage the influx of Mainland tourists in recent years, Chief Executive CY Leung says. Speaking to the media today, Mr Leung said the measures include successfully requesting Mainland authorities to stop plans to allow Shenzhen non-registered residents to visit Hong Kong on multiple-entry arrangements in 2012. The number of cities allowing residents to come to Hong Kong on multiple visits remains unchanged since 2009 at 49. Mr Leung noted plans to increase Hong Kongs capacity for tourists, such as large shopping facilities slated for the man-made island along the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. He also said protest actions against Mainland tourists in Tsim Sha Tsui at the weekend only represented a small section of the community, adding most people in Hong Kong appreciate the economic benefits brought by such visitors. Chief Executive CY Leung: The actions taken by a group of people on Canton Road a couple of days ago only represented a very small section of the community. The community at large realises that tourism is a major sector of the economy and it provides a large number of job opportunities, particularly for the lower skilled workers in Hong Kong. We fully appreciate the pressures that have been brought on certain districts in Hong Kong as a result of the large number of tourists coming to Hong Kong. At the same time we will increase the supply or the availability of tourist-related facilities in Hong Kong. One very good example is the construction of large shopping facilities on the man-made island that will be part of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. So these are very clear examples as to how we manage the demand and increase supply at the same time. https://youtube/watch?v=TESizG5739A
