Meateaters argue that theirs is a lifestyle choice. And it is, if one believes that might makes right. It is the justification used by rapists, pedophiles, burglars, and murderers. It was the mindset of the slaver and the slaveholder. Conquerors, kings, dictators and despots all justified their atrocities by power and right. And the chain of abuse continued to the slaves killing chickens and serfs beating dogs. Doing what one wishes to the weak and powerless seems to be a common human trait. And none is weaker and more powerless than an animal which has no legal protection, no recourse for cruelty done it, no religions or governments defending it, no voice or vote in its fate. We have almost climbed out of the mire. Slavery is no longer legal in any country on Earth. Women and gays are gaining equality and rights at an accelerated rate. Only animals languish behind in our compassion and concern. To fully realize Animal Rights, human compassion and empathy must reach a level felt in our legislatures. And those legislatures must employ the power of government to ban the consumption of animals as they have already banned rape, child molestation, theft, and murder.
