Media Advisory November 20, 2014 U.S. Coast Guard Contact: 14th District Public Affairs Email: [email protected] Office: (808) 535-3230 MATSON CREW TO RECEIVE COAST GUARD PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD WHO: Captain, Chief Engineer and crewmembers of the Matson ship Manukai. Rear Adm. Cari Thomas, Commander of the 14th Coast Guard District will be presenting the award to the crew. WHAT: Crewmembers from the Matson ship Manukai will be receiving a Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service award for the rescue of the three men from the 42-foot sailboat Walkabout caught in Hurricane Julio 414 miles northeast of Oahu, Aug. 10, 2014. The Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service award is the second highest award presented by the Coast Guard to recognize recipients for unusual courage in advancing a Coast Guard mission, substantial contribution to the Coast Guard that produced tangible results and specific individual accomplishments that provide unique benefits to the public. WHERE: 1411 Sand Island Parkway, Pier 2, Honolulu, 2nd floor of the Matson terminal building. WHEN: Monday Nov. 24, 2014 – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Media interested in attending must RSVP with names by calling the 14th Coast Guard District External Affairs office at (808) 535-3230 by 3 p.m., Friday. Media who have not RSVPd will not be allowed on the terminal. Individuals must present identification for terminal access.
