Moloney Community/Media Relations Manager, 352-797-3609 Re: Fire in Laundry Room at Hernando County Detention Center Date: January 7, 2015 At approximately 1:26 p.m., a fire was discovered in the laundry room at the Hernando County Detention Center. Hernando County Fire/Rescue was dispatched to the scene as soon as the fire was discovered. It is believed that the fire started in a commercial dryer inside the laundry room. No inmates were injured. One Detention Deputy was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Hernando County Fire/Rescue units remain on scene at the Detention Center to ensure that the fire is extinguished. The Detention Center will remain on lockdown until further notice.
