Media Release: New NZ weather reports – straight from the source Every Kiwi knows how changeable the weather can be in New Zealand during spring. To pack an umbrella or sunglasses – that is the question! Fret no more, because MetService – New Zealand’s official weather authority – is now bringing you accurate and timely reports in five convenient timeslots on Face Television (free-to-air on Sky TV). MetService is a global leader in providing accurate local weather forecasts and information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A team of world-class meteorologists and technologists is at the heart of everything it delivers. Face TV is the first national news channel to bring viewers MetService’s own video forecasts, presented by the meteorologists themselves. Forecasts include National, Auckland, Pacific and Australian weather reports - and severe weather updates when they are required. Face TV station manager Callum MacGilvray says: “In a country like New Zealand, which experiences extreme weather conditions, it is important the public receives accurate weather information, and quickly, when an extreme weather event is about to hit. “It’s wise to look out for severe weather reports from a trusted source like MetService. Just look at places like Wellington, and the Canterbury region, which have been hit with some wild and windy weather lately.” MetService weather updates are presented by experienced broadcast meteorologists Daniel Corbett and John Law. British born Dan Corbett has worked for the UK Met Office and the BBC, as well as in Tornado Alley in the US, before joining New Zealand’s MetService. John Law has many years of meteorological experience working both in the UK and NZ. MetService general manager communications Jacqui Bridges says: “Partnering with Face TV is a great way to bring more in-depth weather forecasts direct to the public. The timeslot enables us to present more of the story behind the forecast and really complements our website and other media.” Face TV, under the Triangle Television banner, was New Zealands first non-commercial TV station and has been broadcasting since 1998, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With support from Sky TV New Zealand, Face TV broadcasts to more than 50 per cent of the NZ population, while continuing its free-to-air analogue service for the Auckland community.
