Media Release PALMER UNITED PARTY READY TO GOVERN: CLIVE PALMER The Palmer United Party is ready to govern and to put an end to the two party duopoly in Australia at the September 7 election, says federal leader Clive Palmer. Mr Palmer said the Palmer United Party had endorsed candidates in all 150 House of Representative seats as well as Senate teams in all states and territories. "The Palmer United Party has been overwhelmed with interest from potential candidates since it was formed just four months ago," he said. "We have assembled a strong team of candidates around Australia who want to serve their communities and take the country forward. "The Palmer United Party has attracted well known candidates such as former rugby league internationals Glenn Lazarus and Matt Adamson, who will head our Senate teams in Queensland and New South Wales respectively. "In Victoria, former world champion boxer Barry Michael and AFL legend Doug Hawkins have joined forces on the Palmer United Party Senate ticket, while former Brisbane Lions and Fremantle Dockers star Des Headland is seeking to win the lower house seat of Durack in Western Australia. "The Palmer United Party team also includes highly respected figures such as Dean Lynch, the Mayor of Cooma Monara Shire who will contest the bellwether southern NSW seat of Eden Monaro, former Queensland Opposition frontbencher Rob Messenger in Hinkler and John Bjelke-Petersen, the son of former Queensland Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, in Maranoa. "While we have high profile candidates, we have attracted representatives from all walks of like with backgrounds in areas such as business, health, the police force and the military who see the Palmer United Party as a way for them to make a difference." Mr Palmer said he would be detailing Palmer United Party policies and announcing a shadow ministry during the course of the campaign. "The major party duopoly in this country is tired and worn out with policies that reflect poorly on the state of our country and Australians want another option," he said. "They are sick of both Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott whose policies on most issues are the same. The Palmer United Party offers a genuine alternative." Mr Palmer will stand as a candidate for the party in the Sunshine Coast lower house seat of Fairfax and aims to lead the party to victory at the 2013 election.
