Media Release: WASA assures Customers Water Supply Schedules will be maintained The Authority wishes to assure its customers that notwithstanding the effects of the ‘Dry’ Wet Season and the planned cutback in production at the Desalination Plant, at Point Lisas, water supply schedules introduced for Trinidad on June 8th 2014 will be maintained. A revised schedule is being introduced for Tobago and this will take effect on July 6th. Customers are advised that the schedules for both Trinidad and Tobago will be continuously monitored and adjustments will be made where necessary. On June 24th, Meteorological Services of Trinidad and Tobago issued a ‘Dry Spell Watch’; noting that despite breaks in the mostly dry conditions in some parts of the country, there was still an ongoing deficit in rainfall amounts being experienced – a situation forecasted to persist through August 2014. In addition, over the period July 5th -11th 2014; Desalcott will be reducing its production by half to facilitate the third and final phase of its plant expansion works designed to move current plant capacity from 30mgd to 40mgd. The expansion project was to have been executed over two phases, in November 2013; and March 2014, but at the request of the Authority given the harsh effects of the 2014 Dry Season, Desalcott segmented the works into a third phase. The works will now be finally completed over a seven day period beginning Saturday July 5th. In order to effectively manage the combined effects of the below normal rainfall and the cutback in supply from Desalcott the following contingency measures have been put in place: • Revised water supply schedules published on 8th June will remain in effect • Revised water supply schedule for Tobago to go into effect June 6th • Ramped up production at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant • System of storage to be maintained at critical service reservoirs • Strengthening of the water trucking service (priority to health institutions) • Acceleration of the leak repair programme During this period customers are advised to manage their water use efficiently by: • Reducing consumption • Eliminating wasteful practices • Correct indoor and outdoor plumbing issues including overflowing storage tanks • Maintain/establish a system of storage To better serve customers, the Authority has opened eight new lines of communication through which its representatives can be reached: 778-4318 307-1882 776-1032 490-9528 778-4284 775-2819 758-5281 710-8015 These numbers are in addition to the 800-4420/4426 tolls free numbers currently in use. Customers are advised to refer to the water supply schedules available on the Authority’s website wasa.gov.tt/WASA_Media_Press.html and Facebook Page: Facebook/ WASA Trinidad and Tobago, for information on the days and times they are due to receive a pipe borne water supply. The Authority encourages customers to manage their water use wisely during this particular period.
