Medical bulletin on former UP President Francisco Nemenzo 25 January 2015 This is Pres Dodong Nemenzos 28th hospital day at the Philippine General Hospital. His primary diagnosis is bacterial meningitis for which he received multiple antibiotics to control the infection. He has been transferred from the ICU to a regular room a week ago, with a 24hr private duty nurse. He is no longer connected to a respirator nor does he require oxygen. His blood sugars and blood pressures are well controlled. He no longer experiences high fevers and he is tolerating his tube feeding well, getting the much needed nutrition. Since the infection resided in the linings of his brain, his wakefulness and alertness are altered. Fortunately, for more than a week now, he has responded to simple commands and acknowledges the presence of people he knows well, like his family and doctors. He still has a long way to go but the progress in his mental state has been very encouraging. The possible complications arising from such an infection are closely monitored. The medical team still prefers that the visitors be limited to his immediate family for now. Dr Agnes Mejia
