Medicare from A Clients Perspective... interview by Key to Mijas Costa I was delighted to meet up with Julia over a cup of coffee and to discuss life in general with her as well as the caring service that she receives each week from Medicare. Julia is a well educated lady who had been married to her husband John for 45 years. They had a very happy life together and a very close relationship. They moved to Spain some 11 years ago as the climate was beneficial to John’s health. They had always done everything together and John took care of financial matters, the driving, DIY and just about all of the practical chores whilst Julia took care of the home. John’s health deteriorated and after an admission to the Costa del Sol hospital was discharged home with the assistance of Medicare to provide his palliative care. Unfortunately John passed away soon afterwards. Fortunately Julia had already established a close relationship with the team at Medicare and they were on hand to assist Julia with every aspect at this difficult time. They liaised with the family, the local Spanish Doctors and the funeral directors; in fact they took care of absolutely everything. As was to be expected, Julia went into meltdown after losing John, she loved living in Spain but was unsure if she would be able to continue on her own. Once again the staff at Medicare nursed her through her bereavement and grief, with unswerving patience and have in time put the sparkle back into Julia’s eyes. Julia has dipped her toe into the waters of all manner of new adventures that she had never had dreamed about and her mind is now open to all sorts of suggestions that may enrich her day to day life. Julia tells me that she is even able to visit her children and grandchildren thanks to Medicare who accompany her on the flights to and from the UK. Julia now receives regular support from the team at Medicare and is able to make the most of her life with their support. I asked Julia how she would best describe the assistance she receives from Medicare, she said that the top of her list would be caring and discreet, John was the original client and now that has been extended to me, allowing me to continue to enjoy my life with support. Julia’s last words to me were “if only Medicare was a tablet that you could take 3 times a day” For more information or to speak to one of the team at Medicare call 952 835 776 clinicamedicare
