We pay a lot of money for her husbands salary, allowances and security because hes supposed to do precisely what shes raising money for. But even then, my main issue is this: we Africans are copying Western philanthropy to deal with social problems, not realising that the West already has established institutions and professions. We need to build our health, education, transport and agriculture systems, but the Kenyan professionals whom this country has invested a lot in training, are ignored or reduced to errand boys. We need to ask whether Europe and America built themselves on philanthropy, and then say to all the do-gooders: very nice, and God bless you. Your place is in heaven. But here on earth, we also need institutions and systems, with leadership that isnt threatened by patriotic professionals doing their job.
