Meditation FOR TODAY: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 “God did not call us to impurity but to holiness. (1 Thessalonians 1:7)” St. Paul tells us that God has called us to holiness and honor in our relations with one another— and especially in marriage. We know how challenging this call is today, especially considering all the strain that marriages are under. So let’s take this opportunity to pray for all married and engaged couples today. “Lord, pour your blessings on all married and engaged couples today. Let them sense your presence in each other. Show them how their union can become a living sign of your love and grace. “For those couples struggling with challenges like illness or financial difficulties, walk with them as they bear their heavy yoke. You who can bring good out of even the worst situations, knit these couples together. Teach them to find their strength and solace not only in each other but even more so in you. “For those relationships wounded by betrayal and infidelity, pour out your grace to restore trust and loyalty. Help them rebuild what has been broken. Enable them to forgive each other. Help rekindle the love that you gave them at first. “For newlyweds, help them build their marriages on the foundation of your promises and your grace. May their life together withstand the storms of life, especially the pressure to live for self-centered and not God-centered goals. “For engaged couples, enlighten them so that they can follow you in this time before they marry. You call us to purity; help them keep their purposes noble so that even in their engagement, they can witness to your plan for married love. “For those couples who are already trying to please you, help them to go farther! Give them a vision of how they can minister to other couples, especially younger ones. Show them how their home can become a miniature church, where you are honored and where your grace flows freely. “Lord, we know how important marriage is to you. You have given us so many examples in Scripture of holy married couples. In every generation, you have raised up witnesses among your people. Thank you, Lord, for all these witnesses! Thank you for giving us so many pictures of what your kingdom can look like!”
