Meet Charles Hardie. Him and I worked for about an hour on his shooting and ball handling, and he and I truly enjoyed our session. Even though he is very young(10) its important to develop proper mechanics in your shot. Everyone is different in terms of how they learn. As you know at times, certain drills wont always be beneficial for that specific person. It is all about taking the time needed to simply finding the RIGHT drill for that specific person. We worked on moving in a tight circles motionaround the cone as quickly as possible while staying square to the basket. This is a great way to challenge the shooter to not cross his feet.(which any shooter should never do) from there I had him have his hands up and wrist loaded before the shot. This will ensure that the shooter will release the ball quicker and more efficient. Notice how Im not really concerned about whether the ball is going in, I am looking at his body, I like to use a term called FOREST Finger, off-hand, rhythm known as the dip, eyes, sweep and away, and turn. All of these concepts help reinforce good habits in shooting. Clearly we havent attained perfection yet. Charlie still needs a lot of work on his sweep and sway as well as getting his elbow under the ball more on the catch. And also his guide hand could be in better position on the ball, but we will work on hat next time! On a more positive note. Charlie eventually locked in mentally, found his groove and began to shoot with proper mechanics the same way EVERY TIME to end the workout. He caught on the hop and finished high( above eyebrow level) with his hips doing a slight turn.(sweep and sway) Good job Charlie keep working hard on your game! Im excited for our next session ! #SaluteToPositivity
