Meet Charlie the 2 year old female cat who is a very lucky lady! Last week Charlie accidentally fell from a 4th floor balcony where she lives. Her owners rushed her into our vets, out of hours. She was admitted for initial stabilisation and strong pain relief. The next day she was given a general anaesthetic to carry out diagnostic radiographs to assess her injures. Sadly she had fractured both of her fore limbs and her left hind. We continue into surgery that day to repair her fore limbs. We surgically placed orthopaedic pins to align the fracture sites and stabilised them by using a external fixation device. She was hospitalised over the weekend on pain relief, anti inflammatories and giving a long lasting antibiotic injection. The following Monday morning we carried out a second anaesthetic to apply external fixation on her left hind fracture site. Since the surgery she has been eating well, seeking human attention, purring and attempting to weight bear on the fractured limbs. Due to her positive progress Charlie was able to go home on Tuesday with strict cage rest, TLC and anti inflammatory medication. We will keep you updated on her progress over the coming months.
