Meet China’s real life Ross and Marcel It’s like a scene from the popular 1990s sitcom #Friends: A man who had saved a #monkey from local hunters five years ago was surprised to find that despite the time that had passed, the creature still recognized him. The duo has actually now become friends, according a report in the Guiyang Evening Paper. Xiao Zhijian, 52, is a forest keeper who resides in the Mayang River Nature Reserve in Yanhe county, Guizhou Provinc. According to the report, in March 2010, he had rescued the monkey from a trap laid by hunters. He’d taken the creature home, fed it and treated its wounds with herbs. Once the monkey had recovered completely, he released it back into the forest in July. Although he’d probably forgotten about the good deed, apparently the monkey had not. On the morning of November 20, 2014, as Xiao stepped out for work, he saw several monkeys sitting on a stone in front of his house. Apparently, his friend had been living well and raised a family. At the first glimpse of Xiao, he rushed to embrace him like an old friend. Since then, the two have become loyal mates, with the monkeys all following the call of Xiao’s whistle, signaling they enjoy treats like sweet potatoes every now and then. It is little wonder then that locals in the region have nicknamed Xiao the “monkey king.”
