Meet Hope today, the mama of all eleven puppies. She was pulled - TopicsExpress

Meet Hope today, the mama of all eleven puppies. She was pulled from Odessa Animal Control in January, tested thoroughly for viability for service dog work, then taken to the vet to be given vaccination and a thorough check up. The shelter said she had been brought in with a puppy so the animal hospital, we supposed, assumed that is why she was in the condition she was in. Odd they missed the pregnancy however! But rather than send her back to be killed with her 11 puppies and kill 12 dogs...(which was 100% unthinkable) we decided to make lemonade out of lemons and avoid any conflict with the vet hospital. Today we are proud to say each of the 11 puppies are, or are days away, from being in the best foster homes possible. They will go to warriors on Veterans Day 11/11/14. Eleven puppies on the eleventh month and the eleventh day to 11 warriors!!! There is much to be learned here in taking a negative and turning it into a positive. And TADSAW is most proud to say that is exactly what we have done. We are excited to have these surprise puppies. One reason to use this experience to show that the thousand and thousands of puppies, litters, and mommas are euthanized daily! When with a little initiative they could be fostered and turned into amazing service dogs for our wounded warriors. Any organization could do this if they chose to. And the warriors returning with the horrors of PTSD/TBI and MST will not cease anytime soon. It is our deepest hope that you will join TADSAW in celebrating our eleven little wonders and their mother Hope. For when I saw her eyes on facebook, they held hope, they held longing and a plea for help. Little did anyone know that she was pregnant but rather quite the opposite since she had come into the dog pound with a puppy. So we are proud of what we have done. We are proud of our puppies and their fosters, and we are proud of Bart Sherwood, program director, for taking the momma and her eleven puppies into his home for many, many weeks of chaos and mess, because he so believed in them and the warriors they would/will ultimately save. The ending of the story is not yet written. Hope, the momma, may have a surprise in store for us all. She is spayed and will hopefully enter training herself quite soon. The photo with me hugging her was this past weekend. The other two were the photos that saved her life when I made the call to save her. She was only a couple of hours away from being euthanized with her 11 puppies she had not yet delivered. Today the puppies are thriving, as is their mama. Moral of the story when faced with an unwelcome challenge, stand up tall, take a deep breath and make the most of it. And by so doing you will become a better person and just perhaps others will take note and become better people too. Save a life goes two ways. And in this case 11 puppies saved and 11 warriors saved. Huge gratitude to Krista, Kristie, June, Gary, Tina and their daughter, Veronica, Bart, and all those who donated toys, blankets, money for food, gift cards, etc. I know I have left someone out, but please know you all have participated in a remarkable journey of Hope!
