Meet La’shanna Herbert As a native of New Orleans, La’shanna Herbert started her dance training at Dari Pennino Dance Academy. After hurricane Katrina she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where her passion for dance ascended to new heights as she studied a variety of dance styles daily. Inspired by her mother, a former dancer, La’shanna began to view dance as a tool towards getting into college. More importantly, dance became a means of expression that led to personal growth. She once heard the quote, “Every time I dance, I become a better version of me.” According to La’shanna, “My frustrations and thoughts are all released after I dance, which leaves me feeling like a more mature version of myself.” Her first memory of complete excitement was her seventh birthday. Her mother took her to Orlando, Florida, which La’shanna recalled as a stress free and innocent time in her life. Given thirty minutes to spare, she chooses to communicate with and strengthen the bond she has with her family. In addition, La’shanna chooses to focus on dance because it provides her with a sense of familiarity during a time where much is going on in her world.
