Meet Little John! This handsome gentleman was finally caught and brought off the streets after months of evading capture. He just didnt understand that the animal control officers were trying to help him. Well, his life on the streets is over, and we want to find him his happily ever after. Little John is going to require someone special to adopt or foster him as he has some factors that typically make a dog harder to adopt. This distinguished gentleman is 7-8 years old, which for a St. Bernard is considered a senior. He is also high heartworm positive. The vet felt he was not a candidate for aggressive heartworm treatment so he has been given the more conservative treatment of a 6 month heartworm preventative shot (with continued treatment he could be heartworm negative w/in 2 years). He has bad knees in both back legs, but doesnt seem to be in any pain from them and gets along just fine- he does however have that gangly teenager look at times when he trotting around or trying to turn too fast...its pretty dang cute! We have watched Little John come alive in the few weeks he has been with us. At first, he kept his head low and didnt want to have any contact with us. With the patience and love from shelter volunteers, bit by bit, Little John has realized getting petted on, having a soft, warm place to sleep and a full belly is a pretty good deal. He now comes up to volunteers on his own searching out attention, trots around and even shows us his super cute play bow, and basically seems quite happy. This is possibly the best life he has ever known. While he is content at the shelter, we cant help but hope for more for him. We would love to find that kind person/family willing to open up their hearts and home to this deserving boy. We dont know how much longer he will be with us, it could be a few months to even a few years, but we would like his remaining days to be filled with comfort and love. If you think you might like to adopt or foster this boy or get more information about him, please call 512-745-1103 to talk to a LAWS volunteer.
