Meet Our Lecturers - Kelly Whelan Waltrip and Elias Gross! Kelly Whelan Waltrip, (pictured left) General & Personnel Manager - Kelly joined LexPhil in the fall of 2009, and has a wealth of knowledge and experience coordinating and overseeing all aspects of orchestral management. She is responsible for ensuring that the scheduling, hiring and production of all orchestra events (concerts, rehearsals, tours, run-outs, auditions and special events) run smoothly, effectively, and in a financially responsible manner. She also oversees all administrative and artistic direction for LexPhils education programs. Working closely with the Music Director, Kelly is also responsible for artistic administration with regard to guest artists, and LexPhil ensembles and musicians. Prior to her work in Lexington, Kelly managed several orchestras and ensembles in Colorado and throughout Michigan. She has worked for such organizations as the Aspen Music Festival, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Opus 21, the Music Center of South Central Michigan and the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. In addition to more than ten years of experience in artistic administration, Kelly draws from a broad background in the arts through her education. She received her Bachelor of Arts in music from Western Michigan University, and a Certificate of Arts Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Elias Aaron Irving Gross, (pictured right) Marketing Manager - Elias joined LexPhil in 2012 as an arts marketer with a passion for social media and inbound marketing innovation. He is responsible for design direction, traditional and new media marketing initiatives, ad buying, front-of-house concert management, media relations, and general organizational enthusiasm. Before joining LexPhil, Elias worked as the Marketing and Design Coordinator for the University of Kentucky Department of Theatre in 2011 and 2012. Elias has done freelance marketing for Multigram Productions for the Celebration of John Jacob Niles concert at the Kentucky Theatre. Elias also has done graphic design work for Multigram Productions, Full Circles Foundation, Be Bold, private wedding clients and more. Elias has an extensive background in viola performance and instruction including performances at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. After leaving the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, he began a career of viola and violin instruction at Central Music Academy and gigging around Lexington. Elias graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky Arts Administration program winning the Maurice A. Clay Leadership Award for the College of Fine Arts.
