Meet Toby! (shelter ID# A691453) This handsome boy is not doing well in the shelter environment and needs to get out of here quickly! He came in as a stray about a month ago, and his anxiety in his kennel has only escalated. He has been great with people, but the latest note from a staff member who observed him yesterday stated, “I noticed him leaping up and down in his kennel and there was blood all over the wall and floor. I called to him but he completely ignored me and remained focused on jumping up in the corner of the kennel. As soon as I opened the gate, he stopped and sat for leashing. He had multiple self-inflicted wounds as a result of the jumping. He was panting very heavily. Seemed immensely relieved the second he stepped out of the kennel. He basically collapsed on the floor when we entered the pharmacy and laid there for exam. His temp was up to 105.” The staff member is keeping him in her office for now, and said, “he has been very calm and gentle, mostly laying quietly on his blanket. I shared my lunch with him and he took food very gently. Super mellow and enjoys petting.” It seems that this poor boy just cannot handle the kennel life. If you’d like to give Toby a permanent break from the shelter by adopting him, please stop by during our business hours and ask staff to meet him. If you cant adopt Toby, but are able to provide him with a foster home while he waits for his forever home, please visit austintexas.gov/fosterpets for more information about the shelters foster program.
