Meet the next player of the Dutch National team: Eva Voortman What is your complete name? Eva Marie Petronella Voortman What is your nickname? Eef What is your position? I am a lefthanded pitcher and I also like to play in the outfield. What is your shirt number? 19 Why this number? I didn’t choose this number 19 with a special reason. The shirt was my size and the consists out of the 2 positions I play (1 and 9) Left or right handed? Left handed, but until 3 years ago I was hitting right handed. How long do you play softball? 11 years Where did you start playing softball? I started playing softball with Centrals in De Bilt. For which club do you play now? This year I started playing for Olympia Haarlem How long are you playing for the National team? When I played for the Youth National team, I trained on a regular base with the National team, since September 2013 I am “officially” part of the team (got my A-status). From who did you learn to play softball? My first coach, from whom I learned a lot, was Lies Janszen of Centrals. Pitching was taught me by Henk van Zijtveld. Who is or was your example? Cat Osterman, left handed pitcher of team USA. What is your best memory from your career? When I was playing in the States in 2013 at Chipola College, we won the State Championships. Which tournament (or game) has been the most impressive to you? The game in which we succeeded getting a place in the National finals and reached the State Championship final. What is the greatest action you ever made? I was pitching a game when a fly ball came to me, just behind the pitching circle. I just caught the ball with a “basket” catch, just like you make in the outfield for the last out of the game. What did you want to be when you were a child? I wanted to be a baker at a cake shop. I loved the cupcakes and pies which were decorated so beautiful (and nice to eat) with all the figurines and colors. I wanted to make them myself. What did you study for? I finished high school (gymnasium) and started studying “bewegingswetenschappen”. This is a study which handles ergonomics, pathology, biomechanics and lots more about the movement of the human body (very difficult to translate, so sorry if we got it slightly wrong). What do you want to be now? I don’t know exactly, but I want to let top athletes perform optimal by getting them the correct training, food, rest and games. It would also be nice to create new methods of training and testing them What is your prediction of the top 8 of the upcoming championship? 1. Netherlands 2. Japan 3. USA 4. Australia 5. China 6. Canada 7. Chinese Taipei 8. Czech Republic
