Meet your newest Regular Guest Ballet teacher, Janessa Kimlin! Formerly a Ballerina with the Queensland Ballet, Janessa will teach Saturday Ballet classes regularly throughout 2015. Janessa began dancing when she was 4½ years old and she hasn’t stopped since! Her love and passion for dance became evident during her school years where she danced at the Toowoomba School of Ballet (now Toowoomba School of Dance) under the direction of Mrs Dale-Maree Coles. During this time she was awarded RAD Grade 8 with Distinction, RAD Advanced 2 and performed with the Toowoomba City Dance Company (now Troupe) at various events and theatrical productions. After two years of full time university study of Optometry (QUT), Janessa deferred upon being chosen to join the elite Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year. Janessa danced as part of the Queensland Ballet Company for 7 years until 2010 when, unfortunately injury made it time to return to her studies. Janessa is currently hard at work on a PhD in Vision Science and teaches ballet at Mad Dance House in Brisbane. Janessa loved her time with the Queensland Ballet, especially touring which included three European tours, Singapore, Japan and various Australian cities and towns. Career favourites include; Swan Lake – Cygnet (2008 & 2010); Romeo and Juliet – Juliet’s Cousin (2010 & 2006); The Little Mermaid – Mermaid Sister (2008), The Nutcracker – Butterfly/Mirliton (2005 & 2007). Janessa is delighted to return to Toowoomba School of Dance to teach as a regular guest teacher in 2015 and looks forward to sharing “the little tricks” that she has learnt throughout her ballet career. “I accept the fact that every body is different and believe dance is about discovering what works for your body and enjoying the challenges along the way.”
