Mega Lou Reed Week, Day Three (Song Five, from The Bells): Lou Reed - Looking for Love OK, sacrilege time. We know that many consider this album one of Reeds finest, and that the man himself always had a particular fondness for it, but, frankly, we hate it and always have. Maybe it will still grow on us one day, as our tastes continue to mature, and Lou will once again be proven to be far ahead of his time. Maybe. But, come on; Disco Mystic? WTF was that? Twas not your Some Girls, Mr. Reed. And All Through the Night with the distracting chatter? And the treacly and cloying Families? Yeah, we know that it might be a personal heart-baring, but what a shitty song. And the weird voices Lou employs throughout? It must be tempting to mix things up a bit when your vocal range is so limited, but this aint the way. The only song we really like on this album is Looking for Love, which features Marty Fogel on sax. To Lou and Martys credit, the sax work on The Bells picked up where it left off on Street Hassle, which is to say it really worked (finally).
