Mega Man - Technical Shiz and Findings: Leaf Shield: -Can shield and grab while its up. Can also grab the ledge, but if you cant use Rush in time if you mess up something near the ledge, you can be gimped or SD easily with Leaf Shield up. -Can throw an item while its up with A and launch it with B rather than launching being both A and B like usual. You have to pick up the item before putting Leaf Shield up. -Can move horizontally while summoning or firing it if youre in the air. -If you summon or fire it while fast falling, it will slow Mega Man back to his usual fall. Rush: -Can be used to escape combos or follow ups. -Can be used as a follow up, notably from an up throw at lower percents and a down throw at higher percents, but you have a bit of lag at the apex of your leap before you can act. -Does not escape hitstun like the misconception spread before release, the game has low hitstun and Rush comes out quicker than almost all options in the game which is why it seems that way. The mine: -Ive found that charging the side smash to connect during the time the mine explodes allows either great damage or shield pressure and covers many options. -Latches onto surfaces like ledges, walls, etc. Metal Blade: -Has 8 direction fire, all directions are very useful. -Picking it up after firing deals more damage, but limits Mega Man to four directions while limiting standard moves. Megabuster: -Is a good pivot option. -If the arm hits instead of just a pellet, its 3 damage on the ground and 4 in the air. -Two shots can be fired out of a short hop. You can continue into the last shot on the ground. -Three shots can be fired out of a full hop, just like the ground jab combo. -You can move horizontally while shooting in the air, not just the ground. -Combining these allows short hop double pellet while moving forwards or backwards. This can be used to move in for an arm hit as well. Smashes: -Up smash is an excellent option both while dashing and out of shield for Mega Man. -Pivot side smash is deadly. -Side smash is an excellent option that covers many opposing options at the ledge. Aerials: -Mega Man floats for a bit during his down aerial, which can be free horizontal movement and potential recovery. -Back air has three potential hits with a minimum of one, each deals 4 damage. A yellow, then a red, then a blue slash. The third has the most KO potential. Other: -His boosted (roll-cancelled) grab is great and easy to pull off compared to other characters. -His uppercut used when facing the ledge allows him to snap on afterwards. -His crouch seems to hide his hurtboxes surprisingly well, including his hands. Fun stuff: -He can suck on his own robotic dick if you crouch repeatedly with appropriate noises for the situation. -Moving the stick slightly forward from being on the ground allows Mega Man to just slide his foot a bit without walking. You can move while doing this, too. -Youre not a true Mega Man main if you dont get three other players to pick Mega Man where you all do nothing but hop from Rush in the same area. This is what Ive found with Mega Man from some time in the demo, some time in the training mode of the full game, and for using him in a fair amount of matches. I believe he is the most technical character in Smash 4 by a few dimensions. I feel like I havent used him enough and plan on more use in the future. Hopefully I didnt forget anything and I hope to find more. He has much more than people give him credit for or talk about.
