Mekong: Hydropower Up - Communities Down The Mekong Delta is home to an amazing variety of biodiversity and provides livelihoods to nearby communities, but hydropower dams (some already built and some in the works) are impacting the Delta and will continue to change the flow of water, increase sediment deposits and erosion, and affect agricultural production. This video, produced by the Center for People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature), provides opinions from local stakeholders living in Vietnams Mekong Delta about hydropower dam projects on the mainstream Mekong. With support from CEPF through our reinvestment in the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, PanNature is implementing communication initiatives and advancing the capacity of journalists to report on environmental issues in Vietnam and neighboring countries. PanNature is also focusing public attention on the environmental impacts of development, especially the impacts of Vietnam’s domestic and overseas investment on natural ecosystems, to elicit policy responses; and is sharing lessons learned with regional civil society and stakeholders.
