Melaye Vs Ibro: Court Admits Pictures As Exhibits A Kogi High Court in Lokoja, headed by justice Emmanuel Oluseyi, has admitted as exhibit pictures of houses allegedly owned by the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris. The houses, seven in number, all situated in Abuja, the federal Capital Territory (FCT), include his private residence at No. 99 Kwame Nkrumah street Asokoro, the Gubabi Royal Hotel, Wuse Zone 5, Dreamland Suites Jabi, and the Summerset Suites, Maitama, Abuja. Others are Palmac Hotel Maitama, Executive Suites and Grand Ibro Hotel. The houses were admitted as exhibit on Friday when the case instituted against the former governor and three others by former House of Representative member Dino Melaye came up for hearing. The counsel to the former governor who is the defendant, Pius Akubo SAN objected to the tendered documents being admitted as evidence arguing that the photographs of the building which was tendered has been tampered with. He stressed that the writings on the pictures were done with the long hand which is not same with the one sought to be tendered urging the court to reject it for the purpose of fair hearing But counsel to the plaintiff, Dino Melaye, Barrister Benson Igbanoi, disclosed that the document tendered should not be rejected in view of its relevance to the case. Justice Oluseyi, however overruled the objection and hold that the documents be admitted as exhibits based on its relevance to the case. Dino had gone to court to compel the former governor to declare his assets before and after he governed the state and to forfeit and return to the cofers of the Kogi State government all monies, properties and shares illegally acquired while in office from May 29 2003 to January 27th 2012. Also joined in the suit are the Accountant-General, the Auditor-General and the Commissioner of Finance of Kogi state. Melaye prayed the court to hold that Ibrahim Idris as Governor of Kogi State during the said period illegally and corruptly amassed wealth far above his legitimate earnings. He futher in his statement of claims, stated that the state suffered stunted growth and development, leading to lack of basic amenities such as good roads, portable water, electricity and good hospital facilities.
