Melvena C. Leake Reeves Dear Friends and Supporters, As you may have notice, my name has been changed but the mission and vision of Karat Place have not. I am still working relentlessly to break ground next door (552 Boyd) in September for Phase II-Reintegration of the program. The proposed 12-bedroom (single room occupancy) structure will house the women who become employed while in Phase I and are paying program fees. This construction is expected to begin in 2014. Again, I am walking by faith. We are in search of individual, group and foundation donors, who will sponsor the foundation, and construction materials in bulk, i.e. 10 pallets of bricks, 10 squares of roof shingles, 200 2 X 4’s or ?? sheets of sheetrock, etc., and some volunteer carpenters, electricians and plumbers and roofers. Together, we can do it. Most female ex-offenders returning home after incarceration need help with housing, substance abuse, education and employment. This house will be one less hurdle to reentry for employed women ex-offenders.
